Anonymous asked: If I am a minority applicant, should I contact someone from MRC when applying?
Not necessarily. If you already know about Columbia and its application process, you’d probably just receive the same information. If you want to find out more about the program itself, it wouldn’t hurt to ask!

Anonymous asked: What does the multicultural recruitment comittee do? Do they recruit minorities?
Pretty much, the MRC provides information to areas where knowledge of Columbia is not very well-known or accessible. The state where I live (WV) is an example one of those places with an underrepresented population at Columbia. Also, there’s a lot of high school students even in New York City who don’t know much about Columbia so we visit their schools to encourage them to apply.

I know what the feeling is like, and I can’t believe it’s been a year since I got my early decision letter. (Actually, I remember it was online, and I somehow couldn’t access my account until 3 hours after decisions were released…so much more stress than necessary haha) Best thing about the whole ordeal is that 8 months after reading my acceptance letter and surviving the excruciatingly long wait coupled with a large dose of senioritis, I’m now here. This school is challenging, but so worth it.
To those deferred, keep your hopes up! And don’t forget to keep other schools into consideration - who knows, maybe you will find a match better suited for you than Columbia.
To those rejected, don’t worry! I’m sure you will find that perfect school. It’s bound to happen, and this is only the beginning of a fantastic college experience to come.
Everything happens for a reason.

Anonymous asked: im a girl and i applied early decision to engineering do you think my chances of getting accepted are higher than like someone who applied to columbia college. my sat/act scores are like really good but my gpa is slightly below average
Whoaaa, haha I’m suddenly getting so many of these messages!
Well, based on statistics, on average there are less girls than guys that apply to the Engineering school (abbreviated as SEAS) so admissions officers usually try to balance out the ratio. There is also a higher acceptance rate for Early Decision compared to Regular Decision, because of the smaller pool of applicants in ED.
However, I’m really not the person to ask for ‘chances’ of getting into Columbia (after all, that’s what College Confidential is for, right? haha JUST KIDDING. Don’t listen to the people that “chance” you on that site… ) Even so, just because you match/don’t match the stats of a Columbia student here will not guarantee acceptance or rejection. It’s ultimately based on how much of an impression you leave in your application. Make yourself unique!

jaymamaystohostsnl asked: Hello! I am currently in the process of finishing my CU applications. I noticed you answered a few questions (creeping like no tomorrow), and I was wondering if I could ask a quick question. For the teacher recommendation section on common app, after I invite my teachers to complete the form, should I still mail in their written letters of recommendation? Thanks :)
Hi there! Glad you’re applying to Columbia~ :)
Most people do all of the college applications online now, so you would only need to send in the electronic version through the Common App. Unless it states otherwise, it isn’t necessary to send in another written copy of the recommendations.
I’ll publish this on my tumblr since it may be beneficial to others with the same question. Hope that helps!

Anonymous asked: Is any point where you would tell someone that their stats are so low that applying to Columbia would be a waste of time ( I know that you would have the tact to not say it in a blunt way). Sorry that this is jumbled, I was thinking of applying to Columbia early but grades in math are just suckish that I am thinking of just forgetting about Columbia and other schools of its caliber. (I know that they look at you as a whole person but transcripts are the main thing, right?)
No, I would never say that! Nothing is a waste of time if you put in your all for it. It’s awesome that you want to apply to Columbia, but always keep in mind that transcripts are not the “main deciding point” as everyone thinks it is. Sure, good grades do help, but essays, extracurriculars, letters of recommendation, etc. play important roles too. I would definitely recommend applying if you are willing to work hard at Columbia, because you’ll never know for sure unless you try.
Also, I recently joined Columbia’s Multicultural Recruitment Committee, which means I will gladly help answer questions such as these. If you ever have any more, feel free to ask. Good luck on college apps! :)

First day on campus. Already loving everyone and everything here! If you see me around, give me a hug or say hi. :D
Sorry for the lack of posts, but this is where I am right now. Once I get into the flow of things, I’ll post more soon!
